Robinson Essay & Lecture: Southworth & Hawes
25 Sep. 2005
Mike Robinson has contributed an essay to the new catalog of the daguerreotypists Southworth & Hawes ("Young America", ed. Grant Romer & Brian Wallis, 2005). In "A Style Peculiar to Themselves: An Investigation into the Techniques of Southworth and Hawes" Robinson uses his own experience as a modern daguerreotypist in discussing the effects of buffing, chemistry, the "white chamber" versus dark chamber and other technical factors in the production of Southworth & Hawes art.
Mike will also be giving a lecture based on this essay, to be accompanied by slides, at the upcoming
Daguerreian Society Symposium
in Rochester, NY.
